A short day's trekking today (three-and-a-half hours), a hour up steep mud, slippery from the previous night's showers. The scenery is alpine, fir trees, some indigenous, some planted for firewood and building materials by the Edmund Hillary Foundation. We get our first peak at Annapurna II. My limbs are feeling a little weaker at 2500m.
Evem though we've time to move on, sensible pacing at altitude keeps us at Chame (2710m) for the night. It's the biggest village on the way to acclimatisation stop, Manang, with its own bank, hospital and hot springs (dry today). It's also a milestone for me, managing my first evacuation since Kathmandu, four days ago. As the clouds gather and the wind rushes through the valley, the afternoon is spent trying to keep warm in the heaterless guesthouse. Here you wear fleeces and caps as well as sunblock.
