We arrived in PD early evening and checked in to our studio apartment before heading out to a lovely fish restaurant for supper.
We spent most of Sunday exploring the town and after much deliberation by Luce on the sea weather and wind forecast for Monday we booked up a boat trip out to the Great Barrier Reef.
We awoke to brilliant sunshine, much to Luce's relief! We were picked up early and headed down to the marina. The boat was quite full but luckily we were the only two certified divers on board. We hired ourselves a digital underwater camera and enjoyed the cruise out to the reef and our dive briefing.
Luce was a bit nervous about the dive, being the first time since Koh Tao and anxiously put on her gear but much to her relief she took to it like a fish to water again after her skills came flooding back.
On the other hand Will was having a few issues equalising and used up all of his air in about 25mins. We both really enjoyed it and promptly signed up for a second dive although this time Will was given a bigger tank of air!
The second dive was much longer and we hit our 40 minute time limit before our air ran out. Luce had enjoyed it so much she decided to store her mask and snorkel on the ocean floor...
The next day we were woken by rain and decided to drive out to see the Mossman Gorge, which was nice but maybe not as impressive as it had been made out to be.
The following day we drove up to the Daintree National Park and booked ourselves on a croc spotting cruise along the Daintree River with Bruce Belcher. It came as quite a surprise to meet with Scar Face, Fat Albert and Lizzie plus a couple of other smaller Crocs.
Thursday was Will's birthday and we headed an hour south for a day in Cairns. After a spot of shopping, we checked into the Shangri-La for a night of luxury.
The next morning we boarded a plane bound for Sydney and continued the birthday celebrations with dinner at The Ivy.
