After spending the night in St. Kilda, I decided to move into the city centre and found a great hostel called Hotel Bakpak...and it was like a hotel!! Melbourne is a very trendy city, everyone constantly looks dressed up, which is a problem when your wardrobe is a bag! Its buildings were also very beautiful and noticably older than Sydney. Except the very contemporary Federation Square, which in all honesty looks out of place sat next to Flinders Street Station, by far the most attractive station ive ever seen (and ive seen a few!).

Apart from taking the free tram, which circles the city, stopping at all the major tourist hotspots (so I did see most of the city centre in detail!) and my venture into the Fitzroy district, which is very arty, I didn't get to see much else. I was unfortunate to be struck down by my 2nd bout of food poisoning this trip (although not of Bangkok standards!!). I can't wait to get home and rinse the NHS, ive spent a fortune on medical care now! At the end of the night

! Incidentally, laughter is not the best medicine. The Melbourne comedy festival was on and I went to see Sean Hughes (from Never mind the buzzcocks). I choose a UK based act as quite frankly, generally speaking, I dont find Australians funny!!! And I was not disappointed, he was absolutely hilarious and had me on the verge of wet pants!!

Luckily, I was able to sample the Melbourne nightlife before illness set in. After crossing paths with Hanna and Natasha in St. Kilda, they left behind their friend Sarah, and we teamed up with my friend Matt in an Irish bar (known to us as Jugs McGee) for an awesomely random night with glo sticks...even though there was a rock act playing! I also met Joe and Heather, pair from Chesterfield and we had a few good nights, sticking out like sore thumbs in the trender bars.

Its back to Sydney next and the completion of my 'loop' of Australia.
