I admit its not the most orthodox route of getting from north to south of Australia but I have my reasons!! I am more than satisfied with what i've accomplished in Oz so I don't feel like i'm missing out on anything in between Cairns and Adelaide. The main reason however is that I really enjoyed my time in South-East Asia, so whilst I was so close I saw it plausable to make the addition of Indonesia to my trip.
My last days in Cairns were far from boring, which eased the loss of the Swedes. Although it wasn't too much of a disappointment swapping a 4 bed dorm with the boys for an 8 bed dorm and me being the only male ;) Grinning and bearing it I spent my last night with them and we had a great time. Slightly unfairly, during the pre-party drinking games I was unaware of the extent of female deviousness, but im taking the fact they were trying to get me drunk as a compliment!! After a very late night it was time for the next leg of my journey
The next morning I upgraded to nearly 3 pounds a night in the delightful Suka Beach Inn, which included breakfast, a pool, lush grounds and plenty of life. Walking through the streets provided familiar sights, many stalls selling inexpensive items (I stocked up on esentials and new clothes), women grabbing my wrist trying to make me buy their tatt...but it felt good. Kuta itself is like a maze, the small alleys are high walled and nowhere near straight, and it isn't the cleanest. I spent 3 nights in Kuta before I discovered that the Hindu new year festival was approaching. Nypie, as its known, was on the 18th and celebrations were expected to be huge. This would have been all well and good, but it is followed by a 24 hour lock in. On the 19th no-one is allowed to leave thier house/accomodation as they believe when the evil spirits come and find Bali empty, they will leave again. So with the prospect of wasting a day I did the only sensible thing - and left Bali!

Always providing the entertainment
. Leaving Cairns at 6.40pm 15th March, I arrived in Bali at 11pm local time, slightly nervous as I had no where to stay (rather than the threat of terrorism, tsumanis, boat capsizes, and plane crashes - a somewhat troubled country it seems!). But I took a recommendation and caught a taxi to Kuta Beach, staying at Dua Dara for approx. 2 pounds. I went to sleep that night with a smile on my face - happy to be back! The next morning I upgraded to nearly 3 pounds a night in the delightful Suka Beach Inn, which included breakfast, a pool, lush grounds and plenty of life.
