With great anticipation in early March I passed through the Thai immigration office in Aranya Prathet, and crossed the bridge marking the border into Cambodia, completely unawares of what I was going to experience over the next ten months. With some sadness, I crossed the same bridge at 9am today, albeit in the opposite direction. I turned around to see the little Khmer children begging me for my last few hundred riel, and young men pulling hugely overpacked carts across the bridge. These are scenes I wouldn't witness again for a while.

Poipet certainly isn't the most attractive town in Cambodia. In fact, it probably rates as the least attractive; a dirty, stinking cesspool of filth in the middle of nowhere really. But this was where I entered Cambodia, and I couldn't think of any better place to leave. There were no regrets. Nothing I wished I'd have said or done. No guilt or ill feelings. The time had simply come to move on. Yet I know deep down that what I've experienced will stay with me, and some day I'll be drawn back...
