With a 7:30am class on the monday, I had one full day to get back to Phnom Penh. With my body clock now completely screwed, I was awake at 5:30am. I made it to Tbeng Meanchey's taxi station at 6am, but it took until 7:45am to fill the cab. The sealed road back to Kompong Thom had degenerated into a terrible muddy potholed nightmare that slightly resembled the road to Preah Vihear. In just three days! It took nearly five hours to reach Kompong Thom, the city at the junction on the sealed national highway. At one point we blew a tyre, and our driver changed it with the spare. Now you'd think, being on a bad road in the middle of nowhere, with no spare tyre, that you'd drive a little more carefully. I guess that's not in the Khmer way of thinking. Luckily we made it, and after grabbing a bite to eat in Kompong Thom, it was a quick ride back to Phnom Penh. At one point we stopped in a small town called Skuon, and some ladies came up to the car window with trays of fried spiders!

As you can guess, I was very relieved to arrive back in Phnom Penh safely. During the four days I was away, I had seen two foreigners, fallen off a motorbike five times, seen two amazing temples, and landed in the middle of a serious border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. I'm still feeling battered and bruised, two days later, but I am so glad that I did it. It was the most hardcore travelling experience I have ever had, but it was something I will never forget.
