Thanks to the stupid and pointless economic blockade of Cuba by the United States, I had to fly to Havana from London via Toronto. Rather than just sit it out for a few hours in another airport I decided to give myself a couple of days to check out the city and Niagara Falls!

I spent the first day wandering the streets, and having a late lunch atop Toronto's famous CN Tower, the tallest free standing structure in the world (unbeknownst to me prior to leaving the airport!). I had a few beers and a game of pool with some folks from the Canadiana Hostel, followed by a great Vietnamese meal not far from Chinatown.

The next day was my only full day in Canada, and it was an interesting bunch who joined me on the tour out to Niagara Falls, including a female rugby player from the UK, a young guy from the UK airforce, a girl from Brazil who could speak five languages and a very ocha couple from Mackay in Oz. The falls were great, covered in snow, and the surrounds were a lot more developed (and tacky) than I imagined! We had lunch at a little town called Niagara on the Lake, and sampled some wine and grappa on the way back to Toronto.

It was another early start, 5am, in order to get the bus back out to the airport for my flight to LA HABANA!
