I am off to Lagoa de Conceico. I can't get much info about Florianopolis at all, including this place. It is supposed to be beautiful. On the bus, I have my mega backpack. The bus has a turnstile which one passes through after paying the fee. My back doesn't even come close. The conductor won't let me enter the rear and has an attitude. I eventually hoist it over the turnstile. I feel guilty as passengers have to twist around it in the aisle. I have no choice.

Signs are limited so I am unclear as to what to do. I am not even sure where I can (if) I can find a hotel. As I ask questions at a transfer point, I get sent to Barra de Lagoa, a backpackers spot. Without any info, I get off at what appears to be the town (island maps are of limited use). After a long walk, I finally learn that the beach (not on the lake) is a kilometer (actually was 3) down the road. I am hauling my megapack. I assume the hostels are there. I get approached by several locals for apartments in their home. I am looking for a more communal experience on this occasion.

I get approached by a backpacker from Argentina who speaks English. I look at the place he is staying. No name with a crotchety old woman in charge. It is $6 per night for a bunk bed. What sells me on the place is the roommates who are a bunch of hippies that make jewelry ti support their travel. Should be interesting.

I am off to the beach. Mostly undeveloped in a beautiful setting. A few restaurants on the beach. In 5 minutes I am beyond the commercial area and enjoying the lapping of the waves. The oppressive heat is broken as a rain system comes through. I let myself get wet and cool off in the rain.

The hippies are hanging on the beach by themselves working on each others hair. I need to be active so keep to myself. After pizza again for dinner, I hang out on the beach listening to some live music drinking a blended drink that has 8 ingredients including cuchasca, pineapple and cocoa. It is really good. It is from a stand on the beach. To compete with the bars, they are more innovative and give you twice as much. I hang out watching the stars and waves until 1 AM.
