At the border town of Chuy, the bus heads deep into the neighborhood, winding around residential streets until it pulls into a vacant parking lot. Shortly 2 other buses pull up. We get a new passenger. It is all weird.

Florianopolis is the center of a massive hub system for buses. There are 3 different, very busy bus terminals within a mile. My hotel has little to offer but proximity to the buses. Since I am tired and wanting to take advantage of the few hours left, I settle.

I feel like I have gone through the looking glass. I walk by a club that I was thinking of stopping into later. It is 9 and I am on my way to dinner but there is a crowd and dancing. When I return at 11:30, it is closing down. This is the opposite of Argentina. Dinner was a little bit of a price shock. A little higher than Punto del Este and Buenos Aires and 2x other parts of Argentina. A good deal by US standards but not cheap.

The town of Florianopolis has little to offer. A few good restaurants in a setting that is great but hard to appreciate with the city towering around. I see 2 strategies. 1) Since Florianopolis is a hub use it as a place to sleep then do day trips. 2) Go to 1 or 2 towns and just hang. I think I am going to do a little of both.
