Punto del Este is a narrow strip of land. It has the Atlantic Ocean on 1 side and a bay on the other. Both are extended beautiful beaches. The ocean has lots of waves with many surfers and a younger crowd. The bay is more family oriented. My hotel, the Tanger, is at a point where the two are only separated by .25 miles. It is perfect for beaches but a mile to the nightlife. I watch the sunset from the rooftop pool a couple of nights. Peaceful.

The beaches are packed. 10 people thick for miles. I am not the type that can sit still so I am mostly walking along the beach. Bar/café are spaced closely along the beach. I stop for a beer along the way to relax and watch the world go by.

Tonight I opt for dinner where the nightlife is. There is a group of 4 bars that also serve food. I go to the one with the most people (30% full at 11). There is limited choice so I go for a pizza and a bottle of wine. It is OK at best.

By 12, the place is full as are all the cafes. Women are showing up dressed for nightlife. Mostly cute tops. Everyone is attempting to grab one of the few tables that opens up. They just stand around with some conversation for an hour or so. The only interaction between groups appears to be those that already know each other. I can see that many groups have been eying my table but I am patiently finishing my bottle of wine. By 1 AM it is packed. I was expecting the music to get louder and for dancing to get going. This was my attempt to get to a local club. No luck. I head back to my hotel at 2:30. Crobar in La Bocca, 20 minute drive, is having a techno festival. Since I guess it does not start until 2 and that I have no idea how I will get back, I reluctantly pass. I will leave Punto del Este without experiencing the full force of its nightlife.
