. Maybe I will buy some to make a quilt. On 2nd thought, I am only allow 10 to 15 kg on some regional flights, I have better not buy too much. I am getting excited about the wildlife and plants we will see on this trip - Orangutan (Indonesia), firefly (Malaysia), orchids (Laos) but we will also enjoy the luxurious life and snorkeling in Bali. One tip for anyone who is planning some serious trips, get yourself a Capital 1 no hassle travel card. You earn miles for regular purchasing but it is very easy to get credits to help paying for airline tickets (no blackout dates); It saved me over $800. It also is the only card that does not charge financial fees for purchasing outside USA. Another tip is check out CheapOAir for airline tickets - I got better deals for Asia traveling than all the usual travel sites like Kayak, Expedia etc.
Home front is also getting organized - Stephen will house and pet sit for us. Grandma is going to New York in two weeks. I still have one last big CFC (Columbia Friends of China) event to get through before I leave town. On Oct 10, a Chinese kite master will visit us and show us how to make and fly some beautiful Chinese kites at Bethel park. This is in conjunction with city's "One Sky, One World" kite festival. I am looking forward to seeing that! O Yeah, I also have about 100 bulbs I need to plant, all the elephant ears, cannas roots dug out and store away and all the house plants moved indoor for the winter. Let us hope for good weather for next few weeks. I am still in "testing" mode for my travel blog. Let me know if you like the format or if you want to follow our trip.
It is interesting how you don't really know much about a country until you read these strange names like Yogyakarta or Banjarmasin in the Lonely Planet guide book. After 3 weeks online trying to book flights from one place to another, I start to recognize these unfamiliar names. I have made some major changes in our itinerary - the biggest one is skipping Philippines (my sincere apology to Randy and Yollie). It is just a little hard to book flights in and out of Bacolod and the threat of a strike against Philippine airline just push me over the edge. I want to have a nice and leisure visit with our good friends who is living more or less permanently on Negros island but to do it on this trip is just too rush and too much hassle. I promise them that we will return to Philippines when we have more time. Now we will have a few more days in Taiwan and will travel to Indonesia a few days earlier than the original plan. On Craig's suggestion, I add Yogyakarta as a stop - great culture site and good place to get batik
