After our Fox Glacier trip we headed straight for Wanaka, and were
finally able to do our shopping yay. This was another really beautiful
place, was picture perfect with a huge lake and moutains in the
backround. We spent two days here just relaxing and enjoying our
surroundings. After Wanaka we headed for Te Anau, this was our stopover
point before we headed for milford sound, but was actually another
really nice place with a small town and nice surroundings. They had
more crazy birds here, apparently they are the New Zealand song bird,
we have never seen a bird that makes so many different noises.
The following day we headed for milford sound to do a cruise, it was only
100km away but it took us 2 and a half hours to get there as it was very
windy and moutainous roads. Was also freaky as we had to drive through
a tunnel that was very dark and went straight through a mountain. It
looked like it was going to collapse at any minute. The cruise was
really nice, beautiful scenery, and we also saw baby sealions,
waterfalls, and birdlife
which are exactly what they are called, you can see the mountains
reflecting in them. This was another time were we have had a lucky
escape, to get there you have to drive through avalanche Zones, and two
days after we went there there was a really bad earthquake which caused
an avalanche blocking to road out, trapping 12 tour coaches, and lots
of campers for 3days. So gald it didn't happen to us as there is
literally nothing there, no hotels and only a small cafe.
After Te Anua we headed for Dunedin, this was another large town, with
lots of shops and ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh yeah a Cadburys chocolate
factory. We did a tour of the factory and the smell of the chocolate
actually made us feel sick in the end lol, got lots of free samples
though and saw a real chocolate fountain which splashed jen lol, she
was not impressed. They also made us wear hair nets and jenna pissed
herself because the woman gave ant another one and said this is for
your beard, which made him look like a total prat, dont worry i forced
him to have a shave after that. We also went to Moeraki boulders while
we were here, these a bug round rocks on the beach which are hundreds
of years old, had fun poseing for photos.
The following day was a very sad one as we had to go to Queenstown and
give back the snugabug, luckily there was no damage and they ddin't
notice the 2 cups we had replaced because ant smashed them. Altogether
we drove 4623km, we had a wicked time and will never forget our cute
little camper.
