Not only was our trip home well timed for checking up on the grandparents, but it was timed perfectly for the arrival of our newest and only niece.  Annabel Mary Donald was born on 17 August to Brad's sister Kirstie and her husband Ed, the first daughter after 3 boys.  As you can imagine the Wickens family were full of excitement at the news of the only little girl amongst 6 little boys.  Brad, Jamie and Zach went to visit her on Friday and came back announcing that she was very pink and very blonde! We wish the whole Donald family all our love and congratulations and hope that everyone settles in well to being a family of 6.

Sadly I was unable to visit Annabel having been struck down with a nasty bout of tonsilitis. Probably caused by 6 weeks of horrendous nights' sleep courtesy of our youngest....Still, for once I was able to get some proper rest, leaving childcare duties to Brad, and catering duties to mum. Thank goodness for both of them as I felt properly rough.

I spent most of the week taking it very slow, and trying to get Benjamin to sleep better at night. Gina Ford claims that babies need calm time after bath time in order to wind down ready for nightime, so we have started a new regime.  No longer will Benji go from chasing his brothers around the house squealing in delight to being chucked in his cot screaming.  From now on we will attempt to take him away and read books to him like we did to the other 2, and perhaps we will restore harmony to bedtime.....

Brad took the big boys to see Cars 2 which they said was the Best Film Ever, and down to London to meet Simon Pallant and Sophie Menon and their kids.  They met up at the Diana Fountain which by all accounts everyone enjoyed, and it was followed up by a trip to McDonalds which of course was a huge hit.

Earlier in the week Brad and I had a day out in London, shopping and catching up with friends.  I had a lovely lunch with Wendy, a great opportunity to have a good gossip without any children in tow.  Next time we see Wendy will be at the christening of her twins - Louisa and Cecily - our two goddaughters, so no doubt it will be difficult to chat in between chasing one of the girls or Benjamin.
