About 2 hours into our journey to our first stop - Leeman - was the famous Pinnacles Desert where thousands of limestone fingers poke up out of the ground, some of them as high as 5 metres. It provided a great place for the kids to stretch their legs and play "Star Wars" in a landscape that apparantly resembles Tatooine, whatever that is...
It was a fascinating place, and certainly kept Zach's brain whirring as he insisted that I read every single board in the Visitors Centre.
Then onto Leeman.....oh dear god.....we could not bring ourselves to stay in what looked like a permanent gypo site. So, we convinced the kids that after some decent play time in the playground and at the scooter park, it would be better to push on to Port Denison where a local Leeman woman told us we would find a marina and a whole host of restaurants.
In the short time we were in Leeman, Jamie managed to make friends with the best bogan yet and owner of spectacular rats tail. I do hope he won't start demanding an Aussie haircut.
And on to Port Denison, which was a nice little town, with a great path along the seafront linking playground to scooter park and beyond to neighbouring Dongara. Jamie and Zach were happy because the scooter park was even better than at Leeman, and Jamie mucked in with the 'big boys', watching them do all sorts of tricks on scooters and skate boards.
Off for dinner in the local pub and yet more fish and chips for the kids. We are all more than a bit sick of the limited choices on menus, and decided that home-cooked food is the order of the day tomorrow.
