Another rushed pitstop - damn that missing passport - and an overnight stay at the Royal Hotel. The drive in was a challenge - there's a squatter village just north of town, and the folks there seem to get some kind of animal thrill running across the four lane highway at night. How can I put this without sounding too racist: the road is black; the sky is black; and you are black. What makes you think that running across the road is a good idea?
Anyway, having dodged the presumptive roadkill, it was into town. We were eyeballed by one of the ugliest ladyboys I've ever seen - an odd thing to see in a genteel resort town. There wasn't much time to do much other than remove some of the mud from... well, everything...and head off to 34 South for dinner.
34 South is... well.. everything. Restaurant, deli, souvenir shop, bakery, fish market, travel agency. THe seafood soup was delicious and the oysters damn fine as well - as they should be, they were fished straight out of the lagoon. And if you get the chance, try the De Waal Viognier 2003 - 80 Rand well spent.
Some nice scenery on the way out in the morning, and even nicer scenery on the road through Wilderness... sadly, nowhere to stop. And from here, it's back inland...
