Meeting up with Uncle Ian, Nana and Papa
Entry 92 of 93 | show all | print this entry |
From Peru we took a day bus to the Ecuador border and then headed to Guayquil from there. It seemed that it started to get greener and more humid and many, many more banana trees immediately after we crossed the border.
When we got to the city, we went to the hostel, dropped our things off and walked around the city a bit. Guayaquil has a really nice Parque Central, but I bet that it's mostly known for a crime scene. Ecuador is a very poor country, so there is a lot of robbery and crime. We had to be extra careful while in Ecuador because of this.
But, on the second day in Guayaquil we went to the Oro Verde Hotel to see our Uncle Ian, and grandparents who flew in from Ottawa to be with us in the Galapagos! It was a reunion to remember!
Later in the day, we also saw our Granny and our friends Rick and Gloria, who were also going on the boat-trip. We all decided to take a bus tour of Guyaquil. We sat on the top of the double decker bus and the adults drank 1$ beer and we all had some chips! We had a blast catching up with everyone!
The next day we spent lounging by the pool at Uncle Ian, Nana and Papa's gorgeous hotel. Mom, Dad, Molly and I would leave the hostel in the morning and return late in the evening. Our hostel was fine, but no pool. The restaurants were closer to the fancier hotels too.
The next day we were all on our way to the Galapagos Islands.
