The night was a little warmer-above 50 so we didn't need as many layers. Today was the day to go see some really big trees in the Redwood Forests. We left the campground at 8am and headed north on Highway 1 with Jenn in the front seat to avoid a repeat of her experience with winding roads! Our first stop was in Leggett where we drove through the Drive-Thru Tree. The photos should say it all. After the stop at Leggett, we continued on to the "Avenue of the Giants" which is about 100 miles north of Fort Bragg. This stretch of road follows the old Highway 101. It's 31 miles in length with 51,000 acres of Redwood groves. The area is surrounded by Humboldt Redwoods State Parks which has the largest remaining stand of Redwoods in the world. It is just hard to believe the size of the trees we saw on this trek. Walking among them really makes you feel humbled. We made many stops along the way to hike in various groves and to climb into and onto trees. Erin said we took over 100 photos. We won't bore you with all of them! The trip to the Redwoods took the whole day. Tonight is cool again. We agreed that the evening temperatures here remind us of our trip to Newfoundland without the rain! Tomorrow is laundry day and getting packed up for the next part of our journey- San Francisco! It's a 4 hour drive from here. Talk to you soon. Next Blog will be July 29th.
