We left Salt Lake City this morning by 6:30. When you leave Salt Lake you drive on a causeway with what appears to be a salt bed on each side. It was really neat to see the Great Salt Lake and we drove along the lake for at least 8-10 miles-absolutely huge-quite amazing. After leaving Salt Lake, it is extremely barren, straight and unpopulated. Along the way, you can see the mountains in the distance. The scenery changed very little until we got closer to California. We crossed into Nevada at 7:30 AM with the 1 hour time change. We stopped at a grocery store in a town called Elko. Albert hit the slot machine in the grocery store and broke even. (He spent $1.00!!!) Once we got close to Reno, we began to see farms and much greener scenery. Before Reno, we started a steady climb into the mountains reaching altitudes of close to 6000 ft. We crossed into California around 3:30. That was truly exciting for all of us! Once we crossed into California we were right in the Sierra-Nevada Mountains and the Tahoe National Forest. This is a big ski area and the mountains are incredible. We began a steady descent for 40 miles. We really gave our brakes a work out!! We arrived in Yuba City at 7PM. Yuba is North of Sacramento. The temperature was 35 degrees when we arrived here. The hotel has a pool and luckily the bathing suits were accessible in the trailer! We will have about a 5 hour drive tomorrow-looks like a slow drive along the Highway 20 to Mackerricher State Park in the Redwoods. Good Night!
