Well after a busy day of touring around yesterday, we decided to have a much quieter day. The plan was to sleep in!! At 5:30 Albert and I woke up to the sounds of buffalo very close by. Albert and I got up and expected to see a few in the campground. To our surprise, there were at least 300 on the front grounds of the campground! The campsite area, itself has special grids in the road to prevent them from coming right in but they were covering the road and the path we take to the lodge to get our morning coffee!! If you've never heard a buffalo they sound similar to a lion and the males never stop making noise (yes the males!) We've been told that the males have a very strong interest in the females at this time of year so we also witnessed several male sparing incidences. The noise had several families up very early. Our girls slept through it but were still able to see the remaining few that had not retreated to cooler grounds when they got up.Custer Park is really neat. There are several campgrounds within the park and each has a camping section and some really nice lodges, cabins and cottages with beautiful facilities, similar to Montebello
Erin on Dakota
. There are no natural lakes in the park-only 4 man made lakes that have swimming and fishing and some have boating facilities. We've seen licence plates from many different states, one from Saskatchewan, Manitoba as well-two from Ontario. The girls booked a 1:30 horseback riding trek for today at Blue Bell Lodge in Custer Park. It was a 15 mile drive from our park that of course, took 30 minutes! If you are a person who gets car sick you will need to have Gravol handy if you travel in this area! It's a bit like a roller coaster every where you go. They went on a 2 hr guided tour. Erin's horse was Dakota and Jenn's was Montana. They had some great guides and really enjoyed the trek. Not much else on the agenda for the rest of the day-laundry, dinner and a short hike in the park. We only have two more nights here and then we are heading to California. It will take us two days on the road-one stop in Wyoming and the next in Reno Nevada and then a stop for 4 days in the Redwoods in Northern California. Have a good night. Talk to you soon.
