We departed at 6:30 today. We had a good drive-not much traffic at all.  The most spectacular part was the sudden change in terrain in South Dakota. The land was totally flat until we got to Champlain Lake area and it was like driving off a cliff. The hills were incredibly steep.  We drove through the Badlands National Park on our way to Custer State Park.  We'd seen pictures but they really hadn't done any justice to the site.  We climbed the rocks and stopped at several viewing points along the way.  We arrived at Custer State Park around 6 pm and set everything up by 7:30 pm . We have a nice site-shaded and backs onto a creek.  It was great to relax with a cool beverage around the campfire! We are looking forward to a five night stay in South Dakota. FYI-the cheapest gas-Minnesota 3.98 and now in South Dakota it's 4.07-converts to close to $1.00 a litre.  Enjoy the photos!
