I checked out of my hotel, lugged my bags to the Keisei Ueno Station and caught a train to the airport. The person checking me in mentioned that it said on my boarding pass that I had Star Alliance Gold status. I have no idea why. On my way to the gate I noticed a United club. I asked at the door if the Gold status meant I was allowed in. To my surprise, the answer was yes. I went in to kill the two or three hours until my flight boarded. They had some food but not much that was vegetarian. They did have some booze so I had some Campari.
The flight arrived in Seattle on time. I had to get my bags to go through customs, which is a bit of a hassle but it went a lot more smoothly than it had in Shanghai earlier in this trip. I had to check in and re-check my bags. This time my boarding pass didn't say anything about Gold status. Oh, well. I went to the gate and killed a couple hours until my flight.
They offered $400 to take a later flight. I went to talk to them about the offer. The later flight would have been about eight hours later. I had already been up for about 10 hours in Tokyo before my flight, gotten on a plane for nine hours and then waited for three hours for my connecting flight so I was pretty tired so I decided not to take their offer. I'm told they raised it to $600 after I had boarded the plane. I might have gone for that.
After another uneventful flight I arrived at Washington-Dulles, got my bags and took a taxi home.
