Where I stayed
I checked out of my hotel at Shiga-Kogen, got a lift over to the bus depot and took a Nagaden Express bus back to Nagano. There was a Shinkansen (bullet train) leaving for Tokyo 19 minutes after the bus was due to arrive. Surprisingly, I managed to catch it and got back to Tokyo and to my hotel by about 2:00.
I walked to my hotel and was able to check in. I put my bags in my room and headed out to find the hotel I'll be staying in the next time I come back to this neighborhood, find when and where I need to catch my train to the airport tomorrow morning, recharge my metro card so I can get to the airport and exchange more dollars into yen.
Then I wandered around some narrow streets near the train station. There were a lot of restaurants, bars and shops and lots of other businesses I really couldn't identify. Very few of the restaurants had any English on their menus. I came across an Indian place that had a little English on their menu but the majority was in Japanese only. I found a Thai restaurant that had everything translated but it didn't look like the Thai food I'm used to. I couldn't find Pad Thai anywhere on their menu. I wound up eating at the third place that had English on their menu. They just had one word but that was enough: pizza. I would have preferred Japanese but I couldn't tell what anything was at any of the restaurants.
I walked back to my hotel to get ready for heading to the airport early tomorrow for my flight to Harbin, China for the Harbin Ice Festival.
