I checked out of my hotel in Salt Lake City and headed for Reno, NV. I stopped about halfway there and got a room in Elko, NV. Elko with a population under 20,000 people is the largest town along I-80 between Salt Lake City and Reno. There's a whole lot of sagebrush and not much else along this route. Elko is predominantly a gold mining town. The town has a lot of hotels and some casinos but I can't imagine anyone would go out of their way to come here so they must be for the locals and people passing through, like me.
