I changed hotels nearly a week ago. I had booked a hotel on Expedia but things didn't work out so I wound up at the Allstar Motel, a place I've stayed before. I spent most of the week doing chores. I have to buy a bike rack and bicycles as well as lots of other supplies for Burning Man and I had a lot of e-mail to go through. Unfortunately, the internet connection at the hotel was very unreliable, which made things more difficult.
I decided to do something interesting for my last day in Salt Lake City so I went to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. When I got to their parking lot I noticed a sign for a temporary exhibit called Speed: The Art of the Performance Automobile. I didn't know the exhibit was there but was a nice fit with my recent visit to Bonneville Speed Week.
There were 19 cars in the car exhibit. Many of them were significant for one reason or another. I enjoyed the exhibit.
The permanent collection was encyclopedic in scope with works ranging from ancient Egypt to Contemporary pieces but didn't have much depth or quality in any particular area. Unfortunately, I believe this is the best art museum in the state.
