I ate, packed up and hiked back to Rock Harbor. I started on the same path I took yesterday and then took a detour to Suzy's Cave and then to a slightly longer route along the southern shore of Tobin Harbor. It was much smoother and in the shade so it was a much nicer walk.
When I got back to Rock Harbor I found a shelter and unpacked. Then I hiked the 4.2 mile loop trail to Scoville Point at the northeast end of the island. It gives a nice view of the rocky coast of much of the island.
When I got back to Rock Harbor I had dinner at the Greenstone Grill, one of the two restaurants at the lodge. My quesadilla was very good and relatively inexpensive.
After dinner I went to the ranger-lead talk on the Charismatic Megafauna of Isle Royale. It was mostly about the ongoing study of the moose and wolf populations. The relative isolation of the island offers a rare opportunity to study the relationship between predator and prey.
After the talk I headed back to the campground and went to bed.
