After I checked out of my hotel I thought I'd head over to the house that was used in the movie A Christmas Story. When I arrived I was surprised to discover that the house is now open for tours as part of the A Christmas Story House and Museum. The museum and gift shop each take up a house across the street.

I bought a ticket and took the tour. Only the exterior of the house was used in the movie and it's pretty much as it was when the movie was made. The interior shots were filmed at a studio in Toronto. The studio was made to closely resemble the layout of the house at the time. Since then the house was pretty much gutted and the interior was re-built to match the Toronto movie set.  I'm curious to see the movie again so I can check out the interior of the house.

The movie studio has not made the props available to the museum so the furnishings of the house are not those used in the movie.  They do have a few items that were used in the movie but only a few.  As a result, the museum has a lot of pictures instead of actual items.  There was also a person there who had appeared in the movie.  He played the man who delivered the crate containing the Major Award.  It was interesting hearing some of his stories about the making of the movie.

When I was done at the museum I drove to Detroit and found a hotel.
