I woke up still full from dinner.  That worried me since I have a lunch reservation at Momofuku Ko today.  Momofuku Ko is one of the new additions in 2011 to Restaurant Magazine's World's Best Restaurant List, coming in at number 65 making it 9th in the U.S.  Another of David Chang's restaurants, Momofuku Ssam Bar, was already on the list in 2010 and is number 40 in 2011.

Momofuku Ko is open for dinner every day but it is only open for lunch, which is their most elaborate meal, Fridays to Sundays.  Since they only have 12 seats, reservations are very hard to get.  I was fortunate enough to get a lunch reservation.

I arrived early but had trouble finding the restaurant and was getting concerned.  I eventually saw a tiny, hard-to-read sign on a door.  What a relief.  I don't understand why people think anonymity is cool.

The reservations are timed so people arrive over a forty-five minute span.  I had one of the earlier reservations and was still a bit early when I finally found the restaurant.  It wasn't too long before I was seated.  Everyone is seated at a long bar.  The people are seated at the bar based on their reservation time with the earlier ones further from the door.  They then serve each course over a period of time.  I was still full from the night before when the first course arrived.

Lunch was 18 courses, if I remember correctly.  I was surprised that I was able to finish them all.  They don't give out menus or allow pictures and I didn't take notes so I don't have any accurate records.  They don't offer a vegetarian menu but they did do a few substitutions for me.  Lunch was very good.

Momofuku Ko is very close to a store called Obscura Antiques & Oddities that is featured on a TV show called Oddities.  I wandered over to the store.  The door was unlocked but when I opened it I was told they weren't open due to a "snafu".  I have no idea what the problem was.

I wandered over to Broadway Panhandler, a kitchen supply store.  I browsed around a while and made note of some items to order online after I get home.

I walked to the Murray Cheese Shop.  They have a great cheese selection and also carry much more than cheese.  They also offer classes, some of which include tours of their cheese cellar.  I'd like to take a cellar tour but none were offered the day I was there.  Maybe next time.

I headed for the SoHo art galleries.  I had a particular one in mind but it didn't look like I'd make it there.  I wandered in a number of other galleries on my way there but the most interesting store I found wasn't an art gallery.  Evolution Nature Store sells fossils, bones, insects, rocks, minerals and other items related to natural history.  I missed Maxilla & Mandible but Evolution seems to sell a similar assortment of items.

By the time I left Evolution most of the galleries were closed or closing so I started heading back to my hotel.  I stumbled across a Peter Lik Gallery, which was just closing but I took a quick look around.  I'm familiar with his work from his galleries in Key West and Las Vegas.  It looked like he's done a series of New York pictures for the gallery.

I headed back to my hotel and went to bed.
