I drove from Frankfort, KY to Cincinnati, OH. My first stop in Cincinnati was the Contemporary Arts Center. It's housed in a building designed by Zaha Hadid, one of the few in the U.S. I must admit, I was disappointed in the building. I've seen pictures of some really interesting buildings she's designed but the Contemporary Arts Center isn't one of them.
They had two temporary exhibits, Realms of Intimacy: Miniaturist Practice from Pakistan and Juliano Sarmento. I wasn't that blown away by either of the exhibits. As is frequently the case when I visit contemporary art museums, there wasn't a lot of pieces that I really liked.
My next stop was the Cincinnati Art Museum. It was founded in 1881, making it one of the oldest art museums in the U.S. It's housed in a fairly large, neo-Classical building in a park on top of a hill. They had a couple temporary exhibits but unfortunately, I was a little early for the Art Deco exhibit that will be opening October 8th. I had to rush through the museum. They have an extensive collection and some good pieces but I don't recall any iconic pieces that I recognized.
As often happens, I got kicked out when the museum closed. I then drove to Columbus and found a hotel for the night.
