I went back to the Borah Peak trailhead and started hiking up to the campsites that are just above the tree line at around 9,800 feet. When I arrived at the first campsite I noticed it was already occupied by a couple people. I chatted with them for a while. There was room for a third tent where they were camped and they invited me to stay there but I didn't want to bother them and I thought there would be more campsites so I continued hiking up the mountain. The next campsite I found was a really terrible one another 600 feet or so up the mountain. At that point I gave up on finding another decent campsite and hiked back down and joined them.

The trail to the top of Borah Peak is only 3 1/2 miles long and goes up 5,262 feet or just shy of one mile, which is much steeper than most hiking trails. I had heard that the first 2,700 feet of climbing is steep and it is. Between my false start yesterday and my extra climbing today I've already had to walk down a good deal of it with a heavy pack and it's hard to avoid slipping and it's tough on the knees.
