<!-- End of StatCounter Code -->I was up until very late trying to get my internet connection fix.  Then I had to get up early to take my car in for service.  Not a good combination.

I found the Toyota dealer.  I gave them the coupon for the pre-paid service.  For the first five services that's taken care of it, which is the way I was hoping it would be with the pre-paid service plan.  Well, this time their first estimate was $711 with the coupon.  After a lot of discussion, the price eventually wound up being under $200, which was for some items that I didn't expect to be on the pre-paid service plan.  It worked out OK but I would have preferred that they didn't start off trying to rip me off.

I was at the Toyota dealer for most of the day.  I then went back to the hotel and tried to get the internet to work until it was time for my dinner reservation at Twist, Pierre Gagnaire's restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  Twist is his only restaurant in the U.S.  His restaurants in Paris and London are both on Restaurant Magazine's Best Restaurants in the World list and both have three Michelin stars.

I wasn't sure what to expect after my disappointing meal at Restaurant Guy Savoy here in Las Vegas.  My initial impression of Twist was good.  It is much more attractive than the drab interior at Restaurant Guy Savoy with high ceilings, windows looking out over Las Vegas from the 23rd floor, a bunch of small lights suspended from the ceiling like little stars, attractive stone and wood walls and some interesting ceramic murals. 

Twist offers a six-course tasting menu they call their Gagnaire Spirit but, unfortunately, do not offer a vegetarian tasting menu.  I talked with the server and we decided I'd get six courses with substitutions for the meat courses. 

The bread was a little bit of a letdown.  It was served warm but they brought two or three pieces at a time so by the time I was finishing the last piece it was cold and hard.  Otherwise, the food was very good.  The dessert course was a shocker when they brought five different desserts each on a separate plate.  They were all quite good and it was a memorable finish to a great meal.  There were a couple lapses in service, such as being brought the same course twice, but, in general, the service was very good and was much better than at Restaurant Guy Savoy. 

The bill was another pleasant surprise.  At Restaurant Guy Savoy they charged me $213 for six vegetarian courses from the $290 eleven-course Menu Prestige.  At Twist, even though I received six courses, since they were all vegetarian I was only charged $125 instead of the full $189 for the standard Gagnaire Spirit menu.  That's a larger percentage discount just for the courses being vegetarian than I got at Restaurant Guy Savoy where I only received six of 11 courses.  That's $98 less for food that I felt was equally good or possibly even better.  And I left stuffed, which wasn't the case at Restaurant Guy Savoy since the courses tended to be smaller since they were expecting to give you 11 of them, not just the six vegetarian ones.

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.
