I got up and got ready for my next challenge, making it back over the road past Teapot Rocks. On the one hand, I had a little confidence since I had made it in. On the other hand, I now knew what I was up against.
I took the drive slowly and carefully. I made it back to the intersection south of Teapot Rocks with no major mishaps, or at least none that I know about - I'll get a final verdict when I take the car in for it's next service.
I had some time before dark so I drove north to the Golden Stairs. I hiked about half of the trail to the point where I had a nice view down to the road by Teapot Rocks. I then went back to the car and drove to the Maze Overlook. I didn't have time to follow much of the hike there but the description makes it sound like an interesting hike: " A challenging trail due to the amount of scrambling involved. The hiker encounters narrow cracks, pour-offs, short drops and some precarious 'moki steps.' A 25 to 30 foot length of rope recommended for packs. No water, little shade. Splendid views of the Maze. Even with its difficulties, it's well worth the trip!" I'm sorry I missed it, but I did get to see the view from the canyon rim.
I drove back to the Sunset Pass Campground for my last night in the park.
