I got up and drove to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. It's actually part of a National Park Service property called the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, which is comprised of the Gateway Arch, the Museum of Westward Expansion, which is contained in the base of the arch, and the Old Courthouse, a nearby historical building.
I didn't come prepared for this visit. I thought I'd get there, buy a ticket, go up in the arch and leave. Well, due to spring break, it was a busy day for the arch. I could have bought a ticket but then I would have had to have waited 3 1/2 hours before I could go up. Only one of the two trams to the top was operating and its capacity is 40 people every 10 minutes. I would have been about 850th in line.
I decided I'll visit the arch some other time. There are also a couple movies you can watch. One, Monument to the Dream, is on the construction of the arch. The other is Lewis and Clark, Great Journey West. I thought I'd save both of them until I come back too. I just went through the Museum of Westward Expansion before heading back to my car and driving to Des Moines, IA.
