It was raining again as I checked out of my hotel in Santa Fe. I didn't have any reason to believe I'd have better luck at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument today than I did yesterday so I just headed for my next destination, Chimney Rock National Monument. My route there took me past Ghost Ranch. I knew that Georgia O'Keeffe lived at Ghost Ranch for many years but little else. I decided to stop in.
Ghost Ranch is now an education and retreat center run by the Presbyterian Church. They also have Georgia O'Keeffe Landscape Tours so I signed up for one. I then went to their Museum of Anthropology and Museum of Paleontology. They're small but there was enough of interest to fill the two hours until my tour.
There were six of us on the tour. We were taken around the portion of the ranch near where Georgia O'Keeffe's home. We got to see the house but only at a distance. We stopped at several places and were shown pictures of O'Keeffe paintings done from near the stops. I was surprised that O'Keeffe's work was so realistic. I had always thought of her work as being fairly abstract. I suppose some of it is but much of it is not.
After the tour I headed for Pagosa Springs, CO, which is the nearest town to Chimney Rock National Monument, my intended destination for tomorrow.
