Since I got in late last night I got started late today.  I set my GPS to go to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  I followed the directions but, unfortunately, didn't find a visitors' center.  I drove around in the park a while hoping to find some signs.  I got a bit low on gas so I stopped to fill up and to get directions.  I followed the directions I was given but still didn't find a visitors' center.  I stopped at a trail head to, again, ask someone for directions.  I followed them, as best I could.  It became obvious the directions were wrong but I finally saw some signs, which lead me past my hotel in the opposite direction to the way my GPS had lead me.  I found a park building.  It wasn't a visitors' center but I was able to find a brochure for the park.  I used that to get me to the visitors' center.  It took 2 1/2 hours to finally find it.  It turns out it is close to where my GPS had lead me but not quite close enough to see it.

The park used to be a National Recreation Area.  That designation makes more sense to me than calling it a National Park.  There are ski areas, golf courses, old historic trains and entire little towns inside the park boundaries.

I took a couple hikes to some waterfalls. They were nice but not spectacular.  I went to a Blue Heron rookery.  That was interesting but too far away to get good pictures.

Late in the afternoon I decided do some sightseeing in Cleveland.  My first destination was the James Garfield Monument in the Lake View Cemetery.  The cemetery had closed at 5:00 so I tried to find the Peter Lewis Building designed by Frank Gehry.  I had an address but couldn't find the building.  I drove around the Case Western University campus trying to find it but didn't have any luck.  I eventually gave up and went back to the hotel.

I checked the address of the Peter Lewis Building.  The address I had is the address they use but the building is actually at another location a couple blocks off the street they use for the address.  Now that I know where it is and know the hours of the cemetery I'll go visit them tomorrow along with the Kohl Gate by Albert Paley at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, which is in the same neighborhood.  I'm hoping tomorrow goes more smoothly.

Got to give you a lot of credit for trying.

No matter how well planned a trip is, things are still going to go wrong sometimes. It's part of the experience. I try to not let a few minor problems get me down. Otherwise, a lengthy independent trip could get very frustrating.
