I checked out of the Knights Inn in Flagstaff and headed south to Arcosanti, which is roughly mid-way between Flagstaff and Phoenix. Arcosanti is an experimental town being built by the Italian architect Paolo Soleri. The town is the first "archology", a word he coined that's a combination of architecture and ecology. It's a demonstration project to show how urban conditions can be improved while minimizing the environmental impact. The eventual goal is for 5,000 people to live and work at Arcosanti. Unfortunately, the project was started in 1970 and there are currently only 60 occupants
When I got to where I had cell service again I called my friend in Phoenix. He had something to do with his wife Tuesday night so I won't see him until Tuesday. I hunted around for a hotel in Phoenix and wound up at another Knights Inn. It's much like the one last night but the internet service is much worse. I did a speed test. The download speed is 0.05 Mb/s and the upload speed is 0.38 Mb/s. Remember dial-up? It's a lot like that.
Tomorrow I'll be going to Taliesin West and then heading for Las Vegas.
