Yesterday, 5/14/10, Jim and I left Tonopah and drove to the Las Vegas airport.  We dropped off our rental SUV and I picked up a smaller car.  I left Jim to fly home to Atlanta and I continued driving to Flagstaff.

The reason for coming to Flagstaff is to climb Humphreys Peak.  Jim and I tried to climb it last year but we had trouble with  the weather here too.  It's not looking good for this year either.  I went over to the trailhead today and talked to some of the hikers.  The snow starts as soon as you cross the field next to the parking lot and continues to the top of the mountain.  They had made it to around 11,800 feet before giving up, which is about 800 feet shy of the summit. They said the trail was impossible to follow in the snow and they thought they had only been on it about 10% of the time.

Just in case you think the timing of this trip is my doing, it's not.  Jim picked a date that coincided with a bowling tournament a friend of his was going to.  His friend was supposed to join us at Boundary Peak but after our weather reports he stayed in Reno.  I should have known better.
