And before you could say ¨stick the alarm where the sun don´t shine it was 6am and time to rock and roll to Guatemala City for the night. A city not called the Paris of Central America for nothing, well I made that one up becuase I do not think Guatemala City and Paris have been used in the same sentence before. But I will say this, sinkhole aside, when people keep telling you how bad a place is, it always winds up being better than you had imagined. And Guatemala City whilst not vying for title of ¨most photogenic city¨ had a great vibe to it and the markets located spitting distance from our hotel were crazy and infectious. As the sun set and the local crazy´s took the place of the sane locals we headed back to the hotel and set the alarm for the earliest time yet...2am for our bus to Managua, Nicaragua.....via El Salvador and Honduras.
As I leave Guatemala, can I just also thank all the great people that I have met and travelled with in Guatemala and Honduras (you all know who you are) helping to make the first two months the awesome journey that it has been. Special thanks go out to my family in Xela (Letty, Hildy, Ludwig, Nancy and Mishell) and Guillermo my Spanish teacher for their patience, understanding and great humour as I attempted to get my head, tongue, eyes and ears around the Spanish language. I am slowly making progress and I promise to send postcards and emails in Spanish as I continue on my journey down the spine of the Americas. To everyone else, safe travels (cuidado viajes), continue to keep in touch and look forward to hearing all about your journey.
Goodnight and goodluck!
