Beware the dogs of Copan

From Antigua we arrived in Honduras at Copan, home of Copan Archaelogical Site and the famous Mayan ruins. In true backpacker style we bummed a two hour tour with Oscar for nothing as the American did not want to do it on his own so we got a great insight into the life of the Mayans, given there is not much left of the ruins and your imagination is called into play. Also the thirty degree temperatures, scorching sun, lack of water helped fuel all sorts of imaginative dreams where I was at once transported back to 1200 BC. The post ruins Coca Cola ranks as a highlight for the fact it helped to bring me back to reality and present day Honduras.
Back to the future we go and if it is Valentines Day it must be 13 hours of travel from the ruins of Copan in Honduras to Roatan. The day begins at 4pm as the alarm beeps me awake and I descend from the tallest bunk bed known to man-kind, a rope, caribeena and crampons would have been easier to get down this beast. And then the tuk-tuk driver awaits as promised at 4.45am to whisk us away to the bus station, where he will earn from both us and 2 other groups about a weeks wages thanks to the early morning bus. And whisk us away he did in true Amazing Race style, just without the shrill squeals of "faster, faster they are getting away".
And what would a trip with Tiffany be than without a couple of dogs chasing after our open Tuk-Tuk attempting to jumo in and devouring, us, our luggae and our driver. We were forewarned to keep our limbs in the tuk-tuk which saved getting rabies vacinations 4 and 5. The day on the road was long with four hours of layovers before boarding our ferry for Roatan. Travelling with Yuri and Sandi from Melbourne we dined in style at Pizza Hut which I admit to enjoying every last bite not to mention the all you can eat salad bar, glory days indeed, or GOLD to those who are up with Oz lingo! And then the ferry trip came and Tiffany broke a streak that dates back to sixth grade as an eleven year old. She yakked on the ferry and the curtain was finally brought down on a 22 year old streak that is now back to a mere 14 days old.
