WOW, what a race! It was a year of "almost" records. It was the second closest finish (0.0635 seconds) and the fourth hottest race ever (89 F ambient temperature with the track only a mere 126 F!!).

But let's back up.....

Nat's cousin Eric is an Indy freak (and I mean that in the very nicest way!) He's been coming to the Indianapolis 500 for over 10 years and has upgraded seats and special passes to get us into the garage the day before the race. We got to walk around and see the cars going through inspections, last minute tune-ups, and being fitted with cameras. We had excellent seats in the Terrace Tower of the infield grandstand right in the middle of the front straight. Great view of turn #4, which is where most of the action seemed to happen Buddy Rice's car wreck

. Now, I don't know much about racing, to me it was just a bunch of cars going around a track, but the Indy 500 is electric. According to USA Today, there are 257,325 permanent seats but with the general admission infield not being counted, there are probably over 350,000 screaming fans, but we don't care because Eric set us up with a headsets and a scanner so we can listen to the crews and drivers along with the announcer and it drowns out the cars as they roar past us. We also had microphones so that we can talk to each other. The "each other" is Eric, his girlfriend Michelle, friend Wynn, Nat and me (Sherri).

Other good news today is that we have a new contract to purchase our house!!!! Looks like closing date will be June 22. That will be a really big stress relief to our travels!
