So it's 9 days till our departure. We have basically everything ready to go: we bought almost all of our travel clothes, our packs, insurance, been vaccinated. The works. Before I write any more, I should say that none of this would be happening without Terri. She is the Queen of organization, and bargain finding. If it wasn't for her, I'd have us show up at Pearson and try to get on a standby flight to somewhere, preferably not in Canada. Thanks to her, we have super cheap tickets on the inaugural *gasp* flight of a Scottish airline called FlyGlobespan out of Hamilton International (aka CYHM) to Glasgow Scotland on May 1st. All in, we're flying to Scotland for $340, one way. It was by far the cheapest way to get there, and it includes meals and free drinks. Terri also hooked us up with insurance, as well as booked our first hostel in Glasgow, AND arranged to meet up with a girlfriend of hers in Edinburgh (see you soon Cara!) Three cheers for Terri!
Since we've been back, I've been helping my best friend Gerry out at his business Apex Composites www.apexcomposites.com makers of the best Dragon Boat paddles in the world (a shameless plug I know, but they really are the best) and currently a new Light Sport Aviation aircraft (aka Advanced Ultralight). We have been working on prototyping this aircraft for months now, and finally have all the major parts made and ready to be assembled. It is made from fibreglass, with a small amount of carbon fibre (Dan and my other pilot buddies, check out the pictures.) It will seat two (very comfortably - it is by far the biggest 2 seat aircraft I have ever seen - and I have flown several types. I sat inside the completed fuselage and had miles of headroom. I'm 6 feet tall, so that is saying a lot.) This aircraft will be the cream of the crop of LSA aircraft when it is put into full scale production. It will leave all of its competition in the dust. It is really exciting and extremely satisfying to see the progress being made, and to see how well the parts are coming out. I'm sorry that I won't be in Canada to see it completed, or to help test fly it, but I'll be all over it when Terri and I get back.
Aside from that, Terri has been working a retail job, and I just helped Gerry move into his first house, with his fiancee Melissa. We've been staying in my parents basement in Burlington, which is really weird. I haven't lived at home for this long since I was 19, and it's a bit of an adjustment.
Apparently I was able to boil almost 5 months of my life down to three wordy paragraphs. How depressing. On the up side, the next time I write something here, we'll be in another continent. Sweet.
