It's Oktoberfest time again!!

From Lisa:

Here in Munich it started on the 23rd of September and goes on for a wild two weeks. During those two weeks over 6 MILLION liters of beer will be consumed along with 500,000 roast chickens, 50,000 pork knuckles (didn't try any of those!) and 100 whole oxen!

It's like a huge state fair with carnival rides, candy apples(!), gingerbread hearts, and Ferris Wheels alongside the places they call "beer tents", but are actually huge decorated halls that can hold up to 10,000 people in each one. What a party!! The Frauleins deliver the beer in 1 liter Krugs called a Mass and these ladies can carry up to 10 Krugs at once -- it's a sight to see!! The food is awesome -- lots of meats and Cheryl found some odd German sausage the first day we were there, but it tasted good anyway! :-) Every few minutes the band cranks up and the toasts and songs begin -- it was all in German, so I'm not exactly sure what we were singing, but we always knew when it was time to say "PROST!" (cheers!)

From Cheryl:

Oktoberfest here in Munich is certainly not like any I have attended back in the states!  It truly is wild to see all these people in the food and beer tents having so much fun.  They stand on the tables, sing German songs, countdown in German - Drei, Zwei, Eins, PROST!!! (Three, Two, One CHEERS!) Then everyone at your table of about 10 people toast each other, clinking very large mugs of beer.   We quickly learned some toasting etiquette..  Always toast everyone at the table, look them in the eye as you clink, and all drink together.  As usual we met some great people.  At the festival we even met a guy wearing an Eagles jersey and someone from Riverview, Florida wearing a BUCS Jersey.   Almost felt like home!

Speaking of home!!!  Just a few more days and we will head from Europe to the states for a short visit..  Hope to see you soon!
