From LISA:

WE'RE CAMPING!!! In ITALY!!?

After the nightmare day we both had at the Nice airport, the good news was that we picked up a brand new Peugeot to use for the remainder of the trip. The "open road" program is a really good deal - lots less expensive than renting through a dealer!

Now, we had about an 8 hour drive ahead to the next place -- ITALY!! A new country to explore!! I checked the map and we were coming so close to Pisa that I couldn't resist detouring us for a couple of hours of picture-taking. Only that meant we hit our next destination - the Marina di Grosetto, way after dark and close to 10 pm Yep, it's a tent!
Yep, it's a tent!
!

We'd looked at this place on-line and it was advertised as a "camping village". I wasn't exactly sure what that might mean, but since Cheryl had found the last-minute cruise through the Greek Islands leaving on Monday -- for less $$ than we were spending on hostels -- then I was happy to give it a try.

By 10pm we were both exhausted from driving all day and when the boy at the security check-in said "You have a tent for 2 nights," we both were too tired to care.

But it wasn't an ordinary tent and this wasn't an ordinary campground. First, they had everything! Restaurants, bars, pizza parlors, movies, bicycles...and Second, they had a private beach directly on the Mediterranean...kite-boarders were everywhere and the sand in this part of Italy is latte brown and so, so soft! And the water is warm! So, camping was a great experience!!

We're leaving on Saturday for Viterbo, a village close to Rome where the cruise ship leaves on Monday, July 30th. We'll be back on August, 6th and I liked camping there so much, we reserved 2 more nights when we come back...it's hard to beat those sunsets on the beach, even if you have to sleep in a tent!!

From CHERYL:
Camping on the Mediterranean - I mean how bad could it be right??  Thankfully, it was awesome!  The "tents" were actually House Tents with 2 real beds in it Tent #8 at your service!
Tent #8 at your service!
.  It was actually very comfy and very cheap!!

We did not really see too much of the area because when you have that wonderful blue water of the Mediterranean to take in, what more do you really need to do?  We sat on beach chairs, read books, slept, read more, re-applied lotions, and slept again!

There was a great sunset over the mountains where we were able to watch the sun go down to one side of us as the almost full moon rose on the other.  Pink sky from the sun and a beautiful white glow from the moon.  I wish that the pictures that we took would even do it partial justice, but I am sure they will not.

Miss you all a bunch!  Take care -
