Paris, France - Friday, July 13th

Well, Friday the 13th certainly proved it's "unlucky" reputation as we arrived in Paris. It was a 1 and 1/2 hour train ride from Brussels, landing us in the Paris Gare du Nord station. We got great directions to our hotel and proceeded through the trains. When we got to the last station, Cheryl was coming through the turnstile when a man pushed her forward so she was not able to go forward or backward through the turnstile and within a second, had taken her wallet and disappeared through the next gate. It happened in literally seconds! As much as we tried, reporting the incident at the station was impossible due to the language differences. We had to make our way to the hotel and then go to the police station to make a report.  The Police did a great job and were able to handle the language differences nicely.  Luckily, there were only 2 credit cards, a drivers license, and a phone card in the wallet, but the inconvenience to cancel everything was frustrating! No one was hurt and it could have been a lot worse but that didn't take away the sting of being a victim of a random pickpocket.

Needless to say, the first day in Paris was not as we would have expected, and we had to take quite a bit of time out of the day to deal with the issues related to a stolen wallet, but things certainly got better as the visit to Paris continued.

Hello!
Remember me ?- we me at Salon Bleu getting pedicures! I finally got a chance to check on your adventure! So sorry to hear you were a victim of the Paris Pick pocketers! Tough way to start. I try to stay out of the subways and just walk the city for that very reason. Paris and Spain take pick pocketing to a new art. Were you able to get your driver's license replaced? Let me know if I can ever do anything on this end. Of course I know you have plenty of friends to help you out - but the offer is there. I will be in Paris in September. It is a wonderful city, don't let anyone spoil your adventure! Remember you are living the dream! I am still searching for my Spain Book. . .where will your path lead you next?
