In a city where the terms excess and eccentricity evoke strong feelings of pride, a Friday Lunch at Galatoire's in New Orleans does not disappoint! We arrived to queue up in the famous line -- the restaurant doesn't take reservations -- at 9am with a Guinness-laced spicy Bloody Mary, guaranteed to make the others in line much more interesting.

The venerable restaurant is tucked between the Bourbon Street Strip - Tease and a non-descript T-Shirt Alley. But those who live in New Orleans or visit regularly understand the traditions of this restaurant -- Friday lunch is an all-day affair!
At 11am the restaurant manager came out to ask each party's preference for their waiter/waitress and to inform the crowd, which had grown rather large by now, that we would be allowed into the upper bar at 11:30. I could hardly wait. Our party had myself, Cheryl, Zack, Drew, Marlene, Mom, and Tom - whose birthday we were there to toast repeatedly during the course of the day!

Once inside, the party began. All around us was a spectacle of amazing wait staff delivering sumptuous delicacies -- from shrimp remmoulade to crabmeat maison -- I ate a filet mignon so tender even the light Bearnaise sauce on top threatened to topple it off the plate. YUM! We all ate, we drank, and we celebrated the chance to spend time with wonderful friends and family we love.
After Galatoire's the party moved down Bourbon Street and we stepped onto Conti Street for the Erin Rose Bar -- another place where Tom, Zack, and Drew are regulars. More toasts for the birthday boy -- Happy Birthday Tom!!
