Munich, Germany

This was our second visit to this part of Germany, but with a completely different focus this time -- or so we thought! Last October we came to experience Oktoberfest. But with late reservations we had to stay about an hour outside of Munich (Munchen) and take their awesome train system to and from the fairgrounds where the festival was held. We has such a great time there that we didn't get to visit the city itself in the time we had.

SO, this time we actually saw Munchen. And when it was time to go, we wished for more time to explore this incredible city! It is a beautiful place with parks, biking paths, beautiful architecture, great German food and of course, THE BEER! This city's claim to fame (next to Adolf Hitler) are the beer halls that grace the downtown area A little Hofbrauhaus music!
A little Hofbrauhaus music!
. Marienplatz is the spot for people watching and the lofty spires of the churches invite a stiff neck! :-)

We HAD to visit the Hofbrauhaus (http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/en/index_en.html)  it was a requirement. :-)Nightly music from the German polka bands and communal tables where everyone must share the toast "PROST" at least every 15 minutes or so. There were so many smiles in there, and it wasn't just because of the delicious warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce, either! While we were there one night, we met a wonderful lady named Isabelle from Spain. She spoke no English and we spoke no Spanish or German, but we all managed to converse just fine. Global communication at it's very best!

PROST!! ;-)
