Arriving in Mumbai was what you could say was an experience to say the least! As we stepped of the plane it was as though we had gone back in time 40 years.
We had been recommended a hostel that was an hour away from the airport and as it was 5am we decided to go for the upgraded taxi that was a good 20 years young rather than the others that must have been twice that! We payed the extortionate price of 450 Rubies (5 pound) for the hour journey and braced ourselves. The bags were thrown on the roof and tied on by what i think was a shoe lace and away we went.....The roads in Mumbai are unbelievably Micky mouse, most have no road markings and that along with some cars not even having any lights and ours not having any wing mirrors, it was an interesting journey! Horns were therefore used by all drivers at all possible opportunities even if there didn't seem to be anyone else around beep beekeeper! Cars literally bump off each other it is pure madness! Crossroads were the best as due to the lack of markings and lights it just seemed to be whoever honked their horn the loudest had right of way..... i think that was the educate anyway although when your hanging on for dear life it is quite hard to tell! It's absolute chaos that surprisingly works!
Eventually we arrived at the hostel relatively un scaved. After catching up on a few hours sleep we hit a karaoke bar at night time, the place was packed and seemed to be the only busy place in the whole of Mumbai. We had a wicked night and pulled off an flawless rendition of "I'm a believer" with the help of a few locals. Off to Goa tonight on a 12 hour bus ride which should be interesting hopefully we'll get there in one piece! More thumbnails ...
