All woke up early again to a wet and foggy morning. Thought we were back in England rather than California! Set off with empty bellies to seek breakfast, with Roger leading the way. After planning with Roger to stop at Fortuna he rode straight past meaning that our hunger was prolonged until 11am. After finally ordering some food at Amanda (a place, not a woman!) Jeff ordered a breakfast Burrito consisting of the biggest wrap you have ever seen in your life! This meant we were late starting off again as Jeff needed time to eat it! Continued our travels, only to encounter some difficult roadworks making it very difficult to control the bikes. Eventually managed to get back on normal roads passing some stunning scenery and tight bends, making it the most exciting day yet, especially for Roger and Greg who were trying to break the land speed record on the bends! After numerous drink stops (non-alcoholic of course!!!) we joined the highway 101. This proved to become the most problematic part of the journey for me. Approaching Sonoma, we came across major roadworks which had left part of the road being re-tarmaced and some big grooves and ridges which we had to manoeuvre. This meant we had to turn into a new lane of traffic, crossing a deep ridge of tarmac at least 4-5 inches high. Jeff and Roger made it successfully. Greg and I decided to try some stunts (!) with Greg driving into some bollards and me running into the back of him. I then dropped the bike, skidded down the road on my elbows and hips, landing in the fast lane of the highway. That was my 300 jacket up the creek along with the $1000 deposit and my pride! The police and motorists were very helpful, saving my bacon by unravelling the bike from the road- do you realise how heavy a Harley is?Arrived at Sonoma (with me still shaking) to an extremely warm welcome from Rob and Sally and kids. Thanks for your hospitality!
