I suppose that I haven't been entirely forthcoming on my intentions. Sure the title says from here to Tierra del Fuego. I never made clear that I had one other objective: to find a quaint little piece of land for my brother here in the Pátzcuaro area. This was a gift of a mission because this area is one of my favorite places to hang out. I know some folks here and the pace of life is very agreeable. Since I have been here I have looked at a few things but it is slow going since everyone is moving at a geological pace and you can only find out about land for sale by word of mouth. I know some folks who know some folks and this way I will find what I am looking for, eventually. In the meantime, I have been machinating about living in this place. Listening to my friend Randall, who gave up the US as a place to live, as he constructs his Xanadu for him and his family totally off the grid, I began to see the wisdom of it. I had also more or less given up on the US as a place to live: too much car time, near guarantee of being a slave to your job, the fascists and the jingoists running the place. Cable TV is the substitute for the good life? But I hadn't really thought that I wanted to extricate myself from 1st world amenities. As I was washing my clothes by hand the other day, gently warming in the sun, it occurred to me that the washing machine is a great invention but at the same time if it means that I have to have a 40 hour a week, 50 week a year job to have the means to enjoy the fruits of washing machine technology, well then I'd just as soon wash them by hand and spend the rest of the day doing what I like to do. So maybe I'll just set up my hand washing station here in Michoacán...
