Day 4 - Red Sea relaxation
We now had a few days in the red sea town of Eilat, wedged in between the coasts of Jordan and the Egyptian Sinai. Eilat has one coral reef and we lived right next to it in the aptly named and highly recommended Reef Hotel. Sadly Eva got ambushed by jellyfish on her first snorkelling expedition and called it quits from then on. The rest of us enjoyed a daily snorkel along the reef (free of charge if you snorkel in from the side). It's especially spectacular in the early morning when the rays of the morning sun are shining right onto the reef. Beautifully coloured parrot fish, wrasses, anemone fish and, most spectacularly, the highly poisonous (to touch) scorpion fish. We'd be swimming through a school of myriads of small silver fish which would part and give way to the startling sight of one of these bizarre floaters dead ahead. That sure gets your adrenaline pumping. You then look left and DA-DAM! There's another one! And right: AAARGH! One more! At one point we were surrounded by seven of these toxic beauties just hovering there as if to say: "come on sucker, I dare you to get closer and lay hands on me..."
We pretty much had the hotel to ourselves all day every day and it was most relaxing!
