I don't want to go home! Really loving this holiday, it's truly the trip of a lifetime!

Finished our stay in Memphis today with a trip around the Rock and Soul museum and then a tour of the Gibson factory. I wasn't so bothered about the factory tour but Martin loved it, and I adored the Rock and Soul Museum so a good day for both.

Made it out of Memphis around 1, stopped off at Walmart for some emergency underwear purchasing and headed for a town called Hot Spring about 40 miles outside of Little Rock, Arkansas (debate still raging about the pronunciation!)

Hot Springs is a pretty amazing place. It sits at the foot of the Ouichita mountains and, unsurprisingly, has hot springs running down into the town. The springs run at 140f naturally and several bath houses were built around them during the Victorian period. The town was in it's heyday during the 20s but has since declined, with all but 2 of the bath houses closed. It's now quite a bizarre place, featuring stunning state park scenery and lakeshore holidaying plus small town Americana attractions: there is a Wax museum that claims to be run by Madame tussauds great great granddaughter (doubt it!), a Gangster museum (the spa resort was a favourite of Al Capone etc), some bizarre 'cowboy church' which I think is a magicians theatre, a film history thing, a tiny science museum and strange shops full of things made from antlers. It kinda reminds me of the town in Big Fish (and a bit of the one in House of Wax), but with more young people as it's a university town. Anyway, I'm looking forwards to exploring tomorrow.

Our hotel is pretty amazing too...we splashed out, and are in the Arlington, a 1920s stunning place that is decorated a bit like the royal suits of the Titanic! Apparently Al Capone used to rent the whole 4th floor during his stays here!! Cool yar!

Anyway, we went for dinner, a bit of a drink and a dip in the outdoor mineral hot tub, and are now about ready for bed. Really looking forwards to exploring this wierd place tomorrow, starting with pancakes from the Pancake Pantry across the road!
